Eliza Ann (Parry) Bethune

Free Will Baptist Cemetery, Marker #6

(~1808 – 1878)

Eliza Ann was born abt 1808 (died age 67) and died 30 January 1878. She married Godfrey Bethune who is buried next to her.

Information about her marriage, parents and children may be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.

Eliza is descended from several families who have been in Nova Scotia a very, very long time. One ancestor of Eliza’s may have been William Knowlton, whose grave marker in Shelburne is among the earliest for any English settler in Nova Scotia, it simply reads “William Knowlton, 1632“.  Eliza is also descended from the Corning family – with her Corning ancestry going back through Jonathan Corning whose parents were Ebenezer and Abigail (Batchelder) Corning who came to Yarmouth Township in 1764 from Beverly, Mass. and settled in Overton.

Below is an ahnentafel for Eliza – a kind of ancestor table that lists her ancestors going back to the mid-1500′s.

  1. Bill, in perusing resident Eliza Ann Parry I note you have no last name for John Parry’s wife Rebecca. My records have her as Rebecca Badger daughter of Nathaniel and Rebecca Simons Badger born 1734 Franklin Conn. and a Richard Warren desccendant.

  2. #8 & #9 Comments

John B. Perry married Rebecca Badger in 1755 in Ashford, Connecticut. John’s father was John Perry Jr., born 1709 and was married to Mehitabel Moulton on October 26, 1732, by Rev. Richerd Treet as published in the Ashford CT Barbour Collection L & M. The spelling of Perry at this time was Perry with a “E”. John B. Perry’s son John was born in Ashford, Connecticut in 1755. His brother Cyrus, my ancestor was born also in Ashford in 1759. John married Tryphena Smith who was born in 1758. Their son John Perry a farmer (1790-1862) married Sarah Trask (born 1790). There daughter, Tryphena Perry (1819-1888) married James Durkee Raymond (1813-1842). Their daughter Helen Augusta Raymond (1840-1915) married Captain John Goudey Perry (1835-1876) who was my great grandfather. His house sits across the street from the Beaver River Baptist Church. Of course in those times cousins married cousins. Cyrus Perry (1759-1853) married Sarah Ellenwood (1767-?) Their son Robert Perry 2nd (1804-?) married Nancy Goudey (1806-?) and were the parents of John Goudey Perry. The split between the Parry and the Perry spelling came with the children of Cyrus Perry: Mary Parry (1787), Sarah Perry (1789), Cyrus Perry 2nd (1791), Amelia Parry (1793), Rebecca Parry (1796), Martha Perry (1798), Lydia Perry (1800), Samuel Perry 2nd (1802), Maltidfa Parry (1806), Miner Parry (1808), and Jacob Parry (1818).

I too have Rebecca being the daughter of Nathaniel Badger (1695 ->1768) and Rebecca Simmons (1708-?). The Badger’s trace to colonial portrait painters.
