Founders Cemetery, Marker #36
(~1773-1857)
Jabez was born about 1773 and died 22 June 1857 at the age of 74, the son of Jabez and Eunice (Soames) Landers. He married Abigail Corning who is buried next to him with her own grave marker. Jabez Jr is the grandson of Sealed Landers—one of the first settlers in Yarmouth Township—who built a grist mill at the site of the present dam in Milton (Yarmouth North).
Jabez and Abigail had five known children: Elizabeth and Nathan are also buried in Founders Cemetery; Eunice is buried in the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery; Mary is buried in Island Cemetery, the active cemetery for Port Maitland and Beaver River. Their daughter, Abigail, is a bit of mystery. She apparently died unmarried; nothing else is known about her.
More about Jabez, his children, parents, and siblings appears in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.
Please leave a comment if you have any additional information about Jabez and his family, particularly the date and place of his marriage to Abigail and the location of the family home, presumably in the vicinity of Beaver River.
