Founders Cemetery, Marker #30 and foot marker: J W C
Epitaph: No pain or grief, or anxious fear invade thy bounds, no mortal woes can reach thee; lonely sleeper here; whilst angels watch thy soft repose
John was born abt July 1822 and died 12 April 1847, aged 24 years, 9 months, the son of Theophilus Crosby and his first wife, Catherine Welch. He was not married. Although his grave marker says John was the son of Margaret, the second wife of Theophilus, she would have been his step-mother having married Theophilus when John was about 15 years of age.
John was the second of four members of his family who died in 1847. The first was his step-brother Ansel; the third was his step-sister Elizabeth Ann; the fourth was their father Theophilus.
Through Theophilus, John is a Mayflower descendant, being descended from Mayflower passenger, William Brewster.
More information about John, his parents and siblings may be found in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.
