Raymond, Nathaniel

Nathaniel Raymond

Founders Cemetery, Marker #41

(1828-1854)

Nathaniel was born in Yarmouth Township 1 May 1828 and died there 6 June 1854. He was a master mariner—possibly his death was related to his life at sea. Nathaniel was the son of Reuben MacFarlane Raymond and Lydia E Power. Their original burial place is not known; however, they were removed in 1900 to Island Cemetery, the current cemetery for Port Maitland and Beaver River.

Nathaniel married 1 Aug 1851 Elizabeth Saunders who was born 24 April 1827 and died 31 Oct 1884, the daughter of Stephen and Lois (Moses) Saunders. They had one known child, Nathaniel Benjamin, who was born in Green Cove (now Port Maitland) in 1853 and died in Vancouver in 1937.

After Nathaniel’s death Elizabeth married Deacon Alexander Haley (1814-1883) who is buried in the Chebogue Cemetery. She is buried in the Free Will Baptist Cemetery and not in a cemetery where either of her husbands are buried.

More about Nathaniel and his family appears in the Old Stones Family Group Sheet Index.

Please leave a comment if you have any additional information about him, particularly the cause of his death at the age of 26 and the places in Yarmouth Township where he was born and died.

  1. Hi…I happened to stumble upon this site and wanted to thank you for the hard work and effort it must have taken to get this done. I am a direct decendant of
Reuben MacFarlane Raymond (my 3rd great grandfather), as well some of the other Raymonds listed. If not for this site I may never have had the chance to see these headstones and learn what they say…as I live in New York. Thanks again!
